QUTHING LEADERS BOOST SUCCESS MEASLES-RUBELLA IMMUNIZATION CAMPAIGN SUCCESS

Quthing, Oct. 23 — The District Medical Officer (DMO)  Dr. Makarant’si Mohlapiso has commended the support of community leaders from various villages for their collaboration with health workers in making the ongoing Measles and Rubella (MR) Immunization Campaign a success.

The five-day campaign, which started on Monday and is continuing across the country, aimed at protecting all children aged zero to 59 months from vaccine-preventable diseases.

In an interview with the Agency, Dr. Mohlapiso highlighted that Chiefs, Community Councillors, and Village Health Workers have been working hand in hand with the Vaccination Teams and the Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) Teams to ensure that all eligible children are vaccinated.

She noted minor challenges, such as some parents initially being reluctant to vaccinate their children.

However, most eventually agreed after receiving health education. Another challenge is the district’s terrain, which requires vaccinators to walk long distances to reach vaccination sites.

Dr. Mohlapiso who did not disclose data of reached eligible children stating that it will be published by national level, expressed gratitude for the public’s positive response to the Ministry of Health’s call for collective action to ensure that all eligible children are immunized.

Nursing Manager Sister Relebohile Nteko from Mphaki Health Centre reported that the campaign has been running smoothly at various vaccination sites. She mentioned that while few parents were hesitant due to myths that vaccines make children sick, they allowed their children to be vaccinated after receiving proper health education.

Area Chief of Ha-Litau, Chief Seahle Letsie, expressed appreciation for the Litau vaccination site, which has brought services closer to the community. . . .
