AFRICAN JOURNALISTS EXPLORE DEVELOPMENT IN EASTERN CHINA

JIANGSU  — African journalists participating in the China International Press Communication Centre (CIPCC) programme have concluded a week-long tour of Wuxi, Zhejiang, Taizhou and Yancheng, gaining first-hand insight into China’s industrial development, agriculture, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

The tour forms part of activities marking the 2026 China-Africa Year of Cultural and People-to-People Exchange, which brings journalists from African countries to different parts of China to learn about the country’s development experience and its cooperation with Africa.

In Wuxi, the journalists visited industrial enterprises where they learned about the city’s manufacturing capabilities, technological innovation and textile industry.

They also visited Zhenjiang, where they explored local economic development and initiatives aimed at promoting innovation and improving livelihoods.

In Taizhou, the journalists were introduced to local industries and community development initiatives, while Yancheng provided an opportunity to learn about agriculture, ecological conservation and sustainable development.

The visits enabled the journalists to interact with local businesses and exchange views on development and China-Africa cooperation.

One of the journalists, Ms Jacqueline Achan of Vision Group (New Vision) in Uganda, said direct interaction with Chinese communities and industries during the tour had provided a broader understanding of China’s development experience.

“They offered important lessons for my country, Uganda, and Africa at large on the value of collaboration, connecting government with research and industry, investing in technology and building sustainable growth that benefits the people, the country and the wider global community,” she said.

The programme forms part of broader efforts to strengthen people-to-people relations between China and Africa through media, cultural and professional exchanges.
