ARSON SUSPECT OUT ON BAIL

Qacha’s Nek, Aug. 28 — Masoabi Lekhotso (50) of Matebeng, Ha Mpiko, has been granted bail of M400 by Magistrate Ponts’o Jankie-Lehasa after a brief appearance at the Qacha’s Nek Magistrate Court on Thursday.

Lekhotso stands accused of arson, allegedly setting fire to a cattle post belonging to Matlotlo Molahlehi on August 6, 2025.

The charge falls under Section 73 read with Section 109 (1) of the Penal Code Act No. 6 of 2010, which criminalizes the intentional and unlawful destruction of property.

In granting bail, Magistrate Jankie-Lehasa imposed the following conditions: the accused must pay a deposit of M400, refrain from interfering with police investigations and Crown witnesses particularly the complainant, attend all court remands, and stand trial to completion.

Defence counsel Advocate Maliboho Lekoboto argued for a lower bail amount, citing Lekhotso’s unemployment and responsibility for four children aged 17, 16, 10, and 4. He proposed a deposit of M300 along with standard bail conditions. . . .
