ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE POSES THREADS – RAMASHAMOLE

Maseru, Jan. 13 — The Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI) says emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) bring in threads requiring attention from stakeholders.

The PS said this during a one-day meeting hosted by Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) on Tuesday, aimed at continuing forging relations with stakeholders so as to protect users against attacks happening in the cyber space.

The PS stated that this meeting comes at the time when the Ministry supported by stakeholders is on Computer Crime and Security Bill.

He added that while AI is a positive measure in the technological arena, it comes with new challenges posing threads to users in the cyber space hence the collaboration.

Unless these challenges are tackled, they also pose huge challenge to  democracy, especially now when the country is heading towards elections.

In the same note, Mr. Nizam Goolam, LCA CEO reiterated that this joint venture between LCA and stakeholders will go a long way in making sure that a road map on how best to achieve set targets in terms of protecting users is build.

Over and above that, he noted that it is imperative that when handling sensitive matters such as this,  a consistent team is build so as to ensure coordinated efforts.

LCA is mandated to amongst others protect the rights of users in the cyber space while Ministry of Information envisages for a coordinated communication process that ensures inclusivity for growth and development of the nation.
