ASSESSMENT YET TO BE CONDUCTED – DDM

Mokhotlong, May 15 — An assessment to identify damage and vulnerability caused by strong winds on households is yet to be conducted, the District Disaster Manager (DDMT) Mr. Phano Ntene has said in an interview on Friday.

Mr. Ntene said 39 households in different parts of the district were affected by strong winds which occurred last Sunday.

He mentioned that the households affected are in the villages that included Moremoholo, Maitisi, Tlokoeng, Checha, Sebera, Mapholaneng, Malefiloane, Sakaneng, Ha Mojakisane, Rosemane, Soai and Matsikeng.

He explained that the vehicles that the Disaster Management Authority operates with are engaged in the annual Vulnerability Assessment and Analysis (VAA) conducted by the Lesotho Vulnerability Assessment Committee (LVAC) countrywide hence delay to assess households affected by strong winds.

He said the office in Mokhotlong has already sought support of transport from partners.

VAA started on Monday this week, a day after the strong winds occurred. It is expected to end on May 28, the District Disaster Manager further said.
