Maseru, June 05 — Basotho inclusive of youth have been urged to embrace technology for public development as well as to avoid being left behind.
This came out during the third edition of Digital Innovators Summit (DIS) summit themed ‘Digital Transformation’ held in Maseru on Friday.
The summit spearheaded by Sky Alpha HD and supported by numerous stakeholders as well as the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI) also saw the presence of youth from different institutions of higher learning.
The summit further saw debate emanating on how best each can be an ambassador, build trust and teach each other how best to stay protected in the digital space while also embracing technology.
The Minister of Natural Resources, Mr. Mohlomi Moleko who participated virtually indicated that the Ministry is working tirelessly in order to digitise water systems as part of improving services. He added that as part of building on this initiative, the Ministry has gained financial support from the European Union (EU) also for support of water security.
Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Mr. Kanono Ramashamole indicated that while it is important to embrace technology it is also instrumental that people are able to put their ideas together hence Artificial Intelligence (AI).
However, he said people should not also forget that AI uses probability to come up with answers, the more reasons why a summit such as this will help even the youth to know how to use their knowledge in order to develop.

The Founder and Managing Director of Sky Alpha, Mr. Tello Leballo noted they introduced this platform as part of youth empowerment as well as to unlock youth potential and talent in as far as digital space is concerned. He thanked all sponsors for supporting this initiative seeking to destiny the country as a better place in as far as technology is.
On behalf of the regulator, Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA), Ms. Mothepane Kotele reiterated during a panel discussion the importance of education in as far as digital transformation is concerned so that many are protected in the digital space while also gaining the benefit that comes with the transformation.
One of the youth who was interviewed by the Agency, Ntaba Lebamang, also a computer science student at NUL said this summit will enable them to interact with the giants in the digital space so that they become knowledgeable and use it to explore opportunities and fight unemployment.
