Qacha’s Nek, Jun. 12 — Despite a stubborn blanket of snow still covering much of the district including town and some cleared on the road by an excavator, life in Qacha’s Nek carried on as usual on Wednesday.
Pedestrians filled the sidewalks, vehicles moved steadily through the streets, and public transport made efforts to operate.
Yet, beneath the bustling surface, the harsh winter weather is taking a heavy toll on local businesses, transport operators and public, revealing struggles masked by the busy town scene.

In an interview with the Agency, Mr. Masiu Tsoinyane, a dispatcher for the Maseru Taxi Association overseeing the Maseru to Qacha’s Nek route, said that although people are moving around, the transport business is struggling because many passengers prefer ‘catch a ride’ rather than public taxis.
“The harsh weather conditions worsened things for us. Yesterday, only sprinters passing through Quthing were on the road, and the route through Semonkong was impassable, so those drivers were not operating. Today, no passengers have been transported, but nine have registered for a 6:00 am trip tomorrow (Thursday),” he said. . .
