CHINA PRIORITIES GREEN ENERGY FOR POWER GENERATION

Qinghai, Sept 14—As climate change continues to become a pressing issue for many global countries, Qinghai Province in People’s Republic of China is among the places making strides in achieving zero carbon emission through green energy power generation.

This emerged during the guided tour of international journalists and African Youths Diplomats at SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development Co. Ltd as one of the world largest photovoltaic solar energy generation park in the Tibetan Plateau covering the area of 235 square miles.

Representing SPIC Huanghe Hydropower Development Co. Ltd, Hainan Industrial Generation Park Ms. Yang Ruoyi said despite being the less developed province, Qinghai Province is green energy generation hub lavishing its economic strength on nature, citing that it has abundance of sunshine for solar energy, mountains to turn the wind turbines, and rivers for hydro power energy.

“Qinghai accounts for over 90 percent supply of clean electricity to many provinces in China, highlighting that Hainan water light complementary photovoltaic Industrial park enjoys a total installed capacity of 9.3 million kilowatts”, she said.

Ms. Ruoyi said built on a barren land where people do not live, installation of photovoltaic panels at Haninan became a game changer to the place contributing to the regeneration of the landscapes with grass gradually growing, adding that wind speed will also be slow.

She pointed out that as years accumulate, natural vegetation around the project place improved and as a result the government cooperated with the local farmers on the utilization of the place.

“The green energy generation project emerged as a game changer from environmental protection, economical and to social aspect, as everyone ripped the benefits such as farmers being able to graze their sheep below the solar panels while renewable energy is generated”, she explained.

She said through all these initiatives, Qinghai is contributing to ecological protection and improvement of its local people’s wellbeing, also highlighting that the electricity generated at the place is low priced, clean electricity and jobs for locals.

Approached for a comment, Abdullahi Jamal Mohammed as one of the African youth’s diplomats said having visited the solar project, it is a huge inspiration and a lesson for them as African youths, highlighting that they have to think on how they can implement such renewable energy projects in their respective countries.

Mohammed stressed that Qinghai province, particularly in Hainan area, have effectively utilized the natural resources to make clean energy and as a result Africa as a continent has to wake up for its development.

“Africa has untapped potential for growth with abundance of natural resources that can be transformed into clean energy, highlighting that Somalia has more wind which can be used to generate electricity”, he boldly said.

Also reflecting on the matter, one of the international journalists from Namibia Mr. Edward Mumbuu said what inspired him most having witnessed the multi-dimensional project which has benefited almost everyone from environmental perspective, economical and the social aspect.

“Ten years ago, the same place was almost a desert and now it has been turned into an energy hub supplying the national grid, boosting the economy while on the other hand farmers are also enjoying improved grazing land for their sheep”, he said.

Mr. Mumbuu stressed that for them being the storytellers, it is a serious take home package to their respective countries that out of nothing the economy can be revived through natural resources.

“Going back home with a lot of task to do on interrogating authorities on things that appear to be impossible and how they can transform them into life changing projects”,

Located in the western China, Qinghai Province is a referred to the natural gem and cultural charm of China with sceneries like Qinghai lake; largest inland of salt water, nomadic farming landscape and the Tibetan culture. . . .
