COMMUNITIES PLAY A ROLE IN INMATES REHABILITATION – SSP MOLALE

Mohale’s Hoek, June 08 — An officer commanding Mohale’s Hoek Correctional Services Senior Superintendent Rethabile Molale explains that as the institution they firmly believe that communities play a vital role in the rehabilitation of inmates.

SSP Molale stated this when expressing a heartfelt gratitude to the Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS) for providing inmates with winter clothing, adding the jackets and other clothes came at an opportune time, as some inmates are currently wearing prison garb which is not warm especially during winter.

He pointed out that some inmates have had no visitors ever since their arrival at the institution and are in need of clothes, ”I am really humbled by LRCS’s for coming up with a solution for the institution’s long-standing challenge, and I am delighted for the inmates,” SSP Molale stated.

On the other hand, LRCS Branch Manager Ms. Mats’eliso Celina Thahanyane asserted that they identified a gap during the Nutrition and Hygiene Assessment visit to the facility, where some inmates were wearing torn jerseys patched with different fabrics and colours, echoing that indeed some inmates are from far villages and barely have visitors, and articulated that LRCS was there to impart knowledge on First Aid, and proper ways of dealing with fire burns amid winter season.

On behalf of about 300 inmnates, one of them appreciated the gifts, adding some of them are from poor villages, while others have been neglected by their families, and therefore they deeply value the love shown to them.

Furthermore, the Executive Director of Crime Prevention, Rehabilitation and Integration of Ex-Offenders (CRROA) Mr. Nkalimeng Mothobi has sung LRCS praises, by noting that formidable challenge facing Correctional Institutions in the country is shortage of clothes exacerbated by winter season, stating an act of giving does not only contribute in the rehabilitation process, but makes incarcerated individuals feel cherished.
