DEFENCE CONTINUES WITH CROSS-EXAMINATION

Maseru, July 30 — The defence in a case in which nine members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) including Retired Army Commander Lieutenant General Tlali Kamoli, are charged with the murder of Maaparankoe Mahao has on Wednesday continued with cross-examination of the current Army Commander Lieutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela.

Lieutenant General Letsoela first took the stand in this matter as a state witness on July 02, 2025 and his cross-examination commenced on July 03 2025.

The cross-examination could not continue on July 04, 2025 due to unavailability of one of the defence lawyers. The case was on that day postponed to Monday this week on which the cross-examination continued.

The witness, in his evidence, has among others challenged the validity of an operation order authorising an operation in which Mahao was to be arrested but was fatally shot. He also questioned the conduct of those who carried out the operation. He indicated that the proportion of force applied was excessive. . . .
