Mohale’s Hoek, Jan.22 — The Disaster Management Authority (DMA) is holding a series of public gatherings in various villages under gazetted chiefs, with the purpose of establishing Village Disaster Management Teams (VDMT’s).
This has been confirmed by DMA’s Officer Mr. Boitumelo Heqoa in an interview where he indicated that the Authority’s Annual Plan entails establishing new VDMT’s, as well as resuscitating the ones which collapsed due to various reasons such as death of some members, or some having left the country and other reasons.
Mr. Heqoa further articulated that DMA will be empowering teams on issues pertaining to self-resilience and preparedness, as the Authority’s motto states that “Disaster Risk Reduction is Everybody’s Business”, hence the need to empower VDMT which will liaise with District Disaster Management Team (DDMT). . .
