Maseru, Feb.27 — Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomeng Majara through the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI) on Friday handed over renovated computer lab with 40 desktops and fibre to Bereng and ‘Masentle High Schools in Mafeteng.
The initiative which is part of the ministry’s policy of digital transformation was witnessed by among others Ministers Ms. Nthati Moorosi, Mr. Matjato Moteane, Dr. Rets’elisitsoe Matlanyane, Principal Secretary Mr. Kanono Ramashamole and Acting Government SecretaryMr. Thabo Moleko as well as former Deputy Prime Minister Lesao Lehohla and LCA CEO Mr.
In her remarks, she said she is thankful that the schools named after two prominent names of this country are beneficiaries of this big project.

She commended the ministry for adhering to the call to ensure that transform Lesotho digitally by handing over computers to the schools.
She said these are meant for education, research and access to information saying they should use it wisely. She added that this is part of government mandate to ensure that no one is left behind.
She urged students to focus on their education and stop chasing things that do not concern them as well as being married at young age. She added that they should protect and love one another so that they become a unified nation, stressing that they should refrain from cyber-bullying.
At the same event, Minister Moorosi said schools in the rural areas are left behind hence the initiative to ensure that they have computers.
She said technology is a must have in this day and age therefore they have to leave no one behind.
She encouraged the usage of AI but urged that they do so responsibly so that they are at par with the world. She said this is not only for schools but community saying they should open doors for community members to have access as the government is on the verge of e-governance and e-services.
On the other hand, Member of Parliament for Mafeteng Mr. Moeketsi Mots’oane expressed appreciation saying Makaota they love beautiful things.
He encouraged students to use the internet for school work and not for any other thing saying misuse of it can destroy them.

Moreover, District Education Manager Mrs. ‘Mahlompho Shale expressed gratitude of the gesture saying it satisfies her that the district is being recognized.
She said this is a sign that the government is advocating for STEM and it is very encouraging.
Mrs. Shale indicated that through the lab, she wants to see change and best performance in STEM subjects as that will put the district on the map.
Furthermore Bereng High School Principal Mr. Lebohang Moreke said they are excited and thankful for the handing over of computers.
He said the government’s dream is to bridge digital divide. He urged that this extend to primary schools as feeder schools.
He however indicated there is shortage of classrooms which hinders conducive learning.
Meanwhile the event was preceded by handing over of telecommunication tower at Ha-Lepolesa still in Mafeteng.
