MASERU – Women and girls with disabilities in Lesotho continue to experience higher rates of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), forced sterilization, denial of reproductive autonomy, and exclusion from sexual and reproductive health services.
This was said by Lesotho National Federation of Organisations of the Disabled (LNFOD) Executive Director, Mr. Rabasotho Moeletsi in an interview with the agency, as the country observes 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence.
Mr. Moeletsi said women and girls with disabilities experience the above more than both men with disabilities and women without disabilities.
He emphasised the need for gender considerations to address these unique barriers while recognizing that disability and gender interact to create specific challenges that neither lens alone can fully capture.
“By explicitly addressing the intersection of gender and disability, the gender disability in practice project can challenge the multiple forms of discrimination women with disabilities face, support their autonomy and dignity, and contribute to broader social transformation,” he added. . .
