Maseru, Jan 06 — The Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI) has successfully laid a positive foundation last year, thus paving way to enhancing delivery in Lesotho’s digital future in the New Year.
This is according to the MICSTI Principal Secretary (PS), Mr. Kanono Ramashamole as shared and articulated in the Ministry’s social media platforms.
Amongst others, in 2025 the PS related that the Ministry is in line with the mission of connecting digital technologies, initiating economic growth, promoting job creation as well as building national competitiveness.
In addition, and of course relating to governance and policy matters, the Ministry has adopted Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy for inclusivity and ethical AI use, further highlighting the importance of adopting these modern technologies so that the country can be at parity with other countries.
Furthermore, the PS alluded to another 2025 success relating to the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with India on Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), an e-government platform and capacity building so as to build digital infrastructure.
Over and above that, the Ministry has launched the National Cybersecurity Centre (NCC) and National Computer Incident Response Team (NCIRT) to protect digital identity and government data.
Therefore, it is projected that the 2026 plans will revolve around the launch of a digital outreach studio for podcasting, photography and video editing in a bid to support the creative economy.
Other plans also include automation of government services as well as completion of 22 e-services centres countrywide. The Ministry of Information is entrusted with the responsibility to ensure promotion of research as well as enhancing digital technologies in the country.
