Maseru, May 06 — The Lesotho Nurses and Midwives Organisation (LeNMO) will on May 12, 2026 commemorate International Nurses Day under the theme ‘Our Nurses, Our Future – Empowered Nurses Save Lives’, with a special focus on honouring the legacy of fallen leaders in the profession.
The commemoration, to be held at the Ministry of Health Auditorium is expected to bring together nurses, midwives and key stakeholders in the health sector to celebrate the vital role played by nurses in delivering healthcare services.
According to LeNMO, this year’s event will not only recognise the progressive contribution of nurses and midwives, but will also pay tribute to individuals who have significantly shaped the nursing profession in Lesotho.
The organisation indicated that the event will be dedicated to remembering some of its distinguished members who have passed on, including the late founding president of the Lesotho Nurses Association (LNA), Dr. Mosebo Chabana, LeNMO Vice President Mr. Tanti Ranthimo and General Secretary Mr. Santi Morephe.
LeNMO noted that the trio’s leadership, dedication and commitment to the nursing fraternity continue to inspire many practitioners, even after their passing.
The annual International Nurses Day is observed worldwide to recognise the contributions of nurses to society and to highlight the importance of strengthening and empowering the profession for improved health outcomes.
LeNMO has invited all nurses and stakeholders to attend the event and join in honouring the lives and legacy of the departed leaders while celebrating the future of the profession.
