LCCU APPLAUDS INITIATIVE

Maseru, Jan. 25 — The Lesotho Child Counseling Unit (LCCU) through its Director Ms. Lydia Muso has applauded an initiative by the judiciary of Lesotho with assistance from development partners to refurbish five children’s courts.

Speaking in an interview, Ms. Muso stated that the renovations done on the children’s courts are a clear indication of commitment by the judiciary to improve access to justice for children as well as protection of their rights in the country.

She remarked that the colorful paintings done on the walls of the courts are inviting for children. She pointed out that any child who comes to such an environment will be relaxed and be able to relate a story and remain calm throughout proceedings.

Ms. Muso indicated that children’s cases will now be dealt with efficiently and be disposed of timeously unlike in the past when some of them could not be completed because the courts were not child-friendly.
