LESOTHO HEALTH AND HORTICULTURE COMPACT OFFICIALLY WINDS UP 

Maseru — The Lesotho Health and Horticulture Compact has officially been terminated, following a decision by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), MCA-Lesotho II has announced.

In a public statement, MCA-Lesotho II disclosed that on November 19th, the MCC formally notified the Government of Lesotho of the termination of the Compact which is marking the end of the flagship development programme that was expected to benefit key sectors of the economy, particularly health and horticulture.

Despite the termination, MCA-Lesotho II clarified that the institution itself will remain operational during a transition phase and is scheduled to officially close on April,18.

The organisation acknowledged the potential impact of the termination on communities and sectors that stood to gain from the initiative. However, MCA-Lesotho II assured the public that efforts are underway, in collaboration with the Government of Lesotho, to ensure the continuity of critical activities initially planned under the Compact.

‘MCA-Lesotho II and the Government of Lesotho are working hard to ensure that key programme activities continue under government funding,’ the statement read.

MCA-Lesotho II further indicated that it will provide regular updates throughout the transition period, as processes are put in place to manage the winding up of operations and safeguard priority interventions.

The organisation also expressed gratitude to its partners and stakeholders for their continued support throughout the lifespan of the programme.

The Lesotho Health and Horticulture Compact was designed to strengthen health systems and boost agricultural productivity, with the aim of driving inclusive economic growth and improving livelihoods across the country.
