LESOTHO LAUNCHES WORLD AIDS DAY COMMEMORATION PROGRAMMES

Maseru, Nov.07 — The Government of Lesotho has officially launched activities leading up to the commemoration of World AIDS Day in Maseru on Friday.

Officiating the launch, the Deputy Principal Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr. Ts’eliso Lesenya said that the event provides an opportunity for the nation to reflect on the progress made in the fight against HIV and AIDS, while acknowledging the challenges that still persist.

Mr. Lesenya noted that Lesotho has made remarkable strides in combating the epidemic over the years, but emphasized that certain population groups continue to face barriers in accessing prevention, treatment, and care services.

‘It is important to celebrate our progress, but we must also ensure that no one is left behind. We need to identify and address the remaining gaps in our national response,’ he said.

He further stressed that the fight against HIV is far from over and called for strengthened partnerships among all stakeholders to accelerate efforts towards achieving an HIV-free Lesotho by 2030.

On the other hand, Mr. Boshepha Ranthithi from LENEPWA as a partner said that there is a need to prioritise engagement of community based organisations and engage in continuous advocacy for resource mobilisation. . .
