LESOTHO PARTICIPATES IN MINISTERIAL CONSULTATION ON ITU

New York, Sept. 24 — Lesotho has participated in a ministerial consultation on a common African position ahead of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26).

The consultation brought together African representatives to discuss preparations for the upcoming conference and strengthen coordination on issues of common interest to the continent.

The Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ms Nthati Moorosi, and the Ministry’s Principal Secretary, Mr Kanono Ramashamole, were among the participants at the consultation.

According to the draft agenda, discussions included an update on preparations for the upcoming meeting of the African Union’s Specialised Technical Committee on Communication and Information and Communication Technology (STC-CICT).

The meeting also considered the outcomes of the African PP-26 Preparatory Meeting held in Abidjan, key outcomes and African Common Proposals, as well as matters requiring political-level attention ahead of PP-26.

Another key issue on the agenda was equitable African representation on the ITU Council.

Participants considered a proposal for the STC-CICT to mandate the African Union Commission, working with the African Telecommunications Union (ATU), to develop a mechanism for equitable representation of African regions on the ITU Council.

The consultation also sought guidance on taking the proposal forward through the upcoming STC-CICT meeting.

The meeting concluded with a summary of agreed actions and responsibilities and closing remarks.
