Mohale’s Hoek, Sept.24 — The Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition Mr. Thabo Mofosi has pleaded with farmers to get farming in fashion by having it at their fingertips with an unwavering support from the Ministry of Agriculture and the officials.
Mr. Mofosi stated this during the training of farmers by experts from RSA, (Bayer and Kaynor), on using right quantities of fertilizers, soil preparation for fruitful cropping season, proper ways of looking after plants during growth .
Among others, he also urged all that learning how to operate various farming equipment, and asserted will help in producing in great quantities highlighting that the Ministry’s plan is to decentralize its services, and capacitate extension officers so that farmers get all agricultural inputs at Resource Centres.

On the other hand, when presenting on soil preparation, Mr. Ponts’o Mokoena from Kaynor, stated that herbicides work at their best when there is moisture in the soil, noting that when soil lacks calcium, magnesium and nitrogen turns acidic, leading to poor harvest hence the need to top dress the soil.
Furthermore, one farmer from Quthing, Thabang Rapeeane stated that they used to think that the more weeds on the fields the higher the dose of herbicides, unaware that overdosing on herbicides could lead crops to have herbicidal burn.
He noted that they also did not know that when they have sprayed herbicides on the field which has planted maize, they should avoid planting beans on the same field.
