LRCS TO STRENGTHEN NTLAFATSA BANA PROJECT

Maseru, June 02 — The Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS) on Tuesday held a meeting with the District Nutrition Team in Leribe aimed at strengthening nutrition messages and improving their dissemination to communities through Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE).

The meeting was held at the District Administration premises in Hlotse, Leribe.

LRCS is working in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to support the dissemination of nutrition messages under the Ntlafatsa Bana Project, which has been running for nearly two years.

Addressing the District Nutrition Team, LRCS Health Department representative Mrs. Moluoane Ramakhula said UNICEF engaged LRCS to assist in spreading nutrition messages in areas where the Ntlafatsa Bana Project is being implemented in Leribe.

She said the purpose of the meeting was to identify gaps and challenges affecting nutrition messaging so that they align with existing interventions aimed at strengthening nutrition in communities.

Another LRCS representative, Ms. Lintle Mathosi, said the Ntlafatsa Bana Project has been implemented in the districts of Mohale’s Hoek, Leribe, Mafeteng, Thaba-Tseka, Quthing and Qacha’s Nek.

She explained that the strengthening of nutrition messages was necessary as the impact of the project was not yet visible in Matsoku and Pelats’oeu Community Councils, which were selected for the implementation of the project.

Mathosi said the project baseline assessment focused on capacity building, community engagement, preparedness and coordination, as well as communication and visibility.

Speaking at the same meeting, District Nutrition Team member Ms. Kekeletso Seleteng said the Ministry of Agriculture, Nutrition and Food Security, in collaboration with World Vision Lesotho, managed to construct keyhole gardens at Ha Nkisi, Mphorosane, Ha Ralebese and Ha Makopela in Matsoku Community Council through the project.
