LTDC TO HOLD TOURISM PITSO

MASERU, Sept. 8 — The Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture, will host a two-day Tourism Pitso from September 16 to 17 as part of activities marking Tourism Month.

The Pitso is aimed at bringing together key stakeholders in the tourism sector to discuss investment opportunities, innovation, market access and strategies to develop tourism in Lesotho.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, LTDC Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Mamello Morojele said the initiative is intended to place tourism at the centre of efforts to attract investment, strengthen Lesotho’s position as a competitive tourism destination and contribute to economic development.

She said the event will also form part of celebrations marking Lesotho’s 60th anniversary of independence, providing an opportunity for the country to showcase its tourism potential to the world.

Mrs. Morojele said the Pitso will bring together government representatives, private sector players, investors, financial institutions, development partners, communities, young entrepreneurs and international tourism stakeholders.

She said a regional approach will be adopted, with tourism authorities and destination marketing organisations from across the Southern African region expected to participate.

The Pitso, she said, will create opportunities for communities, micro, small and medium enterprises and young people to participate in and benefit from the tourism economy.

She said entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to showcase tourism-related products, while the event will promote skills development, innovation and access to markets.

Mrs. Morojele added that the Pitso will focus on investment promotion, with LTDC seeking to identify viable tourism investment opportunities and connect project owners and entrepreneurs with potential investors and financiers.

She said the programme will combine high-level dialogue with practical engagement through business-to-business meetings, an investment promotion forum, networking sessions and exhibitions.

The event will also showcase various aspects of Lesotho’s tourism economy, including cuisine, crafts, cultural creativity and digital innovation.

LTDC Public Relations Officer Mr. Molapo Matela said the Tourism Pitso has been established as part of the corporation’s mandate to promote and develop tourism in Lesotho.

He said the platform will bring tourism businesses together to showcase their work while identifying opportunities available within the sector.

Mr. Matela said the Pitso will also explore how young people can use technology to participate in tourism and contribute to the promotion of Lesotho.

He said visitors from Eswatini and other countries are expected to participate in the event, adding that local businesses will be given an opportunity to share ideas on how the tourism sector can be expanded.

LTDC Head of Strategic Marketing Mr. Phomolo Lebotsa said preparations for the September 16 to 17 event are progressing well.

He said the Pitso will provide a platform for tourism stakeholders to share experiences, discuss efforts to grow the sector and identify opportunities for collaboration.

Mr. Lebotsa encouraged tourism businesses and other stakeholders to use the platform to promote their products and showcase Lesotho as a tourism destination.

He said the event will also explore ways in which young people can use technology to promote tourism and create opportunities within the sector.

He said the 2026 Tourism Month is being observed under the theme, “Digital Agency and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” focusing on how digital platforms and artificial intelligence can transform the tourism sector and enhance destination visibility.

Mr. Lebotsa said the Pitso will further seek to strengthen regional tourism cooperation and attract international visitors and tourism stakeholders to Lesotho.

The event is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to turn Lesotho’s tourism potential into tangible opportunities for investors, businesses, communities and the economy.
