Maseru, May 05 — Thabo Khama of Motimposo in Maseru has been sentenced to 30 years imprisonment by the High Court after he was found guilty on two counts of murder.
Khama was charged with the murders of his girlfriend Thandiwe Maloma and Phahamiso Lenela which occurred at Motimposo on January 23, 2022 and he pleaded guilty to both charges.
Evidence presented before court revealed that Khama was in a relationship with Maloma and they stayed together at Motimposo.
It added that, on the fateful day, he found the girlfriend in bed with Lenela at their home and he assaulted both with a pick handle.
The evidence further revealed that following the assault, the victims were taken to hospital where they both succumbed to their injuries.
According to a postmortem report presented before court as part of evidence, Maloma died due to traumatic internal bleeding. It stated that she had multiple bruises all over her body, several fractured ribs, fractured chest bone and wounds.
Postmoterm done on Lenela revealed that the cause of his death was traumatic subdural hematoma. He was found with 11 sutured wounds on the head and bruises all over his body as well as subdural collection of blood in the skull.
The Court has ordered that both sentences are to run concurrently.
