Berea, March 31 -The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition, through the Maqhaka Resource Centre, will for the first time host a Market Day aimed at showcasing products from farmers and producers across various categories on May 27.
This was revealed by the Maqhaka Resource Centre Area Technical Officer (ATO) for Nutrition, Mrs. Mahlompho Sheane, during an interview with the Agency on Tuesday.
Mrs. Sheane stated that the primary objective of the Market Day is to boost the morale of small-scale local producers by providing them with a platform to showcase their products and production capabilities directly to consumers.
She noted that, in preparation for the event, nutrition clubs are already preserving food items, while crop and livestock farmers, along with other producers, are stockpiling their goods ahead of the day.
Mrs. Sheane further highlighted that the Market Day will serve as an important platform for producers to connect with their communities. She added that it will also give consumers an opportunity to learn more about the origin of the products they purchase.
Additionally, she explained that the event will allow buyers to enjoy fresh farm produce while shortening the supply chain and reducing logistical challenges between producers and consumers…
