Maseru, July 30 — Featherweight semi-final featured another historic moment as Rapelang Maselela became the first Mosotho woman in history to win a Commonwealth Games medal in any discipline.
Maselela is through to the semi-finals of the women’s 57kg boxing category after defeating Zuwadi Kutaka of Tanzania 4-1 on Wednesday.
She will join her teammate Pooana Khoahli in Friday’s semi-final after his victory in Tuesday’s welterweight (65KG) quarter final.
Meanwhile ‘Mamakoli Senauoana narrowly missed out on qualifying for the next round of the women’s 200m but has qualified for the semi-finals in the women’s 400m with run time of 53:45 seconds.
However, Mojela Koneshe, Neo Ntelele and Mokheseng Kenete gave their all in the men’s 200m but could not progress to the next round.
Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) has commended the athletes saying representing Lesotho on the Commonwealth Games stage is an achievement in itself.
LNOC indicated that their dedication, resilience and fighting spirit make the nation proud and encouraged them to keep believing, keep working and keep striving saying every race is a stepping stone to even greater success and that the nation rallies behind them.
Lesotho is represented by 14 athletes (8 men and 6 women) at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. The team competes across two sports disciplines: athletics and boxing.
