MATLANYANE MEETS TBEA CHAIRMAN

Maseru, Apr. 25 — Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Dr. Rets’elisitsoe Matlanyane, together with Lesotho’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China Mrs. ‘Mapaballo ‘Mile, held a courtesy meeting with the Chairman of TBEA (formerly Tebian Electric Apparatus) Mr. Zhang Xin, in Tianjin, China on Friday. 

The Ambassador formed part of the Honourable Minister’s delegation for this engagement. 

TBEA, a leading provider of renewable energy solutions in China, is currently implementing a photovoltaic project in Ramarothole, Mafeteng District. Phase I has been successfully completed, with Phase II set to commence soon.

During the meeting at TBEA headquarters, Dr. Matlanyane expressed appreciation for the completion of Phase I and reaffirmed Lesotho’s commitment to strengthening cooperation towards the timely implementation of Phase II. 

The project is expected to play a significant role in advancing Lesotho’s energy security and supporting the goal of ensuring reliable electricity access nationwide.

In line with the China–Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, the delegation also emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for the Basotho diaspora, particularly in skills development and knowledge transfer. 

On the other hand, Mr. Zhang reaffirmed TBEA’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Lesotho and supporting the country’s development priorities. 

Meanwhile a signing ceremony was subsequently held, marking a renewed milestone of cooperation between the two sides.

The delegation was further hosted at the TBEA Science and Technology Museum, where they gained insights into the company’s evolution and achievements. 

This was followed by a visit to one of TBEA’s industrial parks, showcasing advanced technologies across the power supply value chain. 

TBEA products are exported to over 70 countries and regions, particularly supplying to nations involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. 

As of 2025, it holds significant industrial, coal and energy trade assets with a brand value exceeding 50 billion RMB.
