Maseru, June 04 — The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning will hold a series of training on asset registration starting from June 15.
These training will be held for different Ministries as according to the Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Finance, Ms. Nthoateng Lebona.
The PS explained that it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Finance to support all government programmes and initiatives particularly those related to ensuring that public finances are not just accounted for but serve the purpose intended for.
Therefore, she urged all Ministries to prepare fully and get ready ahead of this important assignment, and cooperate with the Ministry for the success of this initiative.
She said the Ministry will also comply fully with the recommendations as outlined in the recently released financial statements by the office of Auditor General.
Meanwhile, the Agency established that the end of year March 31, 2023 and 2024 report of the Auditor General on the Consolidated Financial Statements of the Government of Lesotho has also raised concern that government seem not to be aware as to the extend or total number of their assets as such are not registered on the assets register.
Therefore, reports encourage the government to ensure accountability in this regard, ensuring that all government assets appear on the assets register.
The Ministry of Finance seeks to be a leading Ministry in public finance management, promote accountability and transparency as well as to be of service to the Basotho nation.
