Mafeteng, Feb. 11 — The District Assistant Administration Manager, Mr. Taelo Mohlaoi has congratulated local leaders and community based organisations for their appreciation of water project implementation and attending the Lesotho Lowlands Water Development Project in large numbers regardless of bad rainy weather.
Mr. Mohloai remarks were made during a one-day training held at Lekoatsa Primary School on Tuesday for local leaders and different established community based organisations where he said they showed interest in the project and need of clean potable water.
He notified the attendees that consultations of this nature are the beginning of the project even though the stakeholders are working tirelessly in ensuring that constructions start so that the community in the area will have access to clean water free from diseases, confirming that the project is going to relieve security forces as there will be no cases of assault on young girls and women while getting water from far places like in the past.
He called on members of the community in the area to take advantage of the bulk water supply and engage in massive production of both crops and livestock rearing, stressing his appreciation for seeing members of the community together with their local leaders impressed with the project to be implemented within their area even though it is not going to cover the whole Makoabating Community Council.
On the other hand the Community Councilor in the Area, Mr. Tlaabe Matobo expressed happiness over the implementation of the project but said it has been years being told that the project is coming, requesting stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the project if they really need water in the area.
He said for a long time they were informed about the project and that preparations were being made till today of whom majority of local communities including local leaders have lost hope that the project is going to be implemented.
Speaking at the same occasion the attendees pledged to support the project for their healthy living free from diseases caused by the contaminated water being consumed right now, saying the problem of being assaulted, abused and walking long distances to get water with this new project is going to be history.
They also stressed the importance of paying for water services as they are already contributing for maintenance of water taps constructed by the Rural Water Supply, adding that they are aware that the project is going to protect them hence the need to also help in ensuring safety of the project to sustain them and pledge not to engage in water wasting through leaving taps leaking.
They stated that to ensure protection of the project they will use irrigation trips to irrigate crops and do other works related to agriculture claiming that even their children will not be seen at the community taps playing with water.
The Lesotho Lowlands Water Development Project will be implemented within three community councils of Tsanatalana, Makoabating, Qibing and Urban Council.
The project within Makaobating Community Council is expected to benefit the population along the tarred road from Tsoloane where main pipes will be delivering water from Makhaleng river and Electoral Divisions are Malumeng. Sechaba, Lekoatsa, Khobotle, Ratheepe, Linotsing, Sebili and Thakanyane respectively.
