MOTEANE SPEAKS ON ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGNS

MASERU – The Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Matjato Moteane says in solidarity with other stakeholders,  Ministry carried out the 2025/26 Road Safety Campaigns (RSC).

Mr. Moteane said this when addressing media at a briefing aimed at giving feedback about the RSC held in Maseru on Friday.

According to the Minister, for the last five years it appears that road accidents fatalities increased from 4001 in 2021 to 4028 in 2025.

He explained that the worse scenario case is that most of  those who who die are pedestrians,  thus losing their lives from drunken drivers.

He alluded that even though last year recorded a horrific accident at Ha Molipa which was  attributed to high speed, but drinking and driving behaviour is a result of the many deaths.

Therefore, he explained the importance of respecting the rights of all road users, urging all to be  mindful of the lives of others when driving.

Meanwhile, he noted that from teams presentations who participated on this years campaigns, highlighted the importance of budget which he said will go a long way in ensuring effective service delivery.

Similarly, the Deputy Principal Secretary (DPS),  Advocate  Lesimole Moletsane mentioned that the issue of alleviating drinking and driving behaviour is vital.

Public Works Ministry is entrusted with the responsibility to ensure amongst others safety for all road users countrywide to alleviate road accidents.
