Mafeteng, May 07 — Mountain areas are well known for quality agriculture, wool and mohair production and are also project based areas whereby a small population is benefiting.
Addressing participants at the two-day National Plans and Strategic Proposal meeting held at the District Administrator’s Boardroom on Thursday Mr. Palo Mahooana said mountainous areas are one of the places with high solar energy even though the majority of residents lack electricity.
He stated that the majority of areas starting with urban, foothills, lowlands and highlands have eco tourism potential with places of interest that could attract tourists.
Presenting on National Spatial Development Infrastructure Policy Mr.Thuso Motselebane said currently the country does not have policy guiding spatial data hence the National Spatial Development policy proposal.
He stated that establishment of a police post will empower the National Government to take full ownership of the production, accumulation and dissemination of spatial information in pursuit of the national interest.
On the other hand Mrs. Mantai Phaila said garbage is disposed of all over as the country so far does not have a valid way of renewing garbage, saying disposing of garbage is not properly handled at all.
She highlighted that up until today the country does not have special places where garbage is disposed of in a safe way, adding that the problem will only be solved through introduction of 7r’s namely rethink, refuse, reduce, repurpose, reuse, recycle and rot.
Mrs. Phaila clarified that 7r’s are important in ensuring a clean environment, saying they also promote healthy life for all.
The purpose of the National Spatial Development Framework is to guide decision making, planning and ensure that development initiatives align with national objectives.
