Qacha’sNek, Aug. 31 —Lesotho’s long-distance star, Olympian Tebello Ramakongoana is ready to take on today’s Sydney Marathon after months of focused preparation.
Speaking to the Agency, his coach James McKirdy said they made a decision to skip local races following the Boston Marathon, instead dedicating themselves fully to training and rest in preparation for Sydney.
“Training in Qacha’sNek is probably one of the hardest in the world. Every easy run is packed with hills,” said McKirdy. “Each week, he averaged over 3,300 meters of elevation gain and loss. His marathon-specific sessions were challenging, but he responded beautifully.”
This will be the seventh marathon the coach-athlete duo has tackled together. According to McKirdy, they continue to push the limits both mentally and physically, introducing new methods to each training cycle…MM/BM
