MASERU – Sefate Sa Bophelo English Medium School learners have been warned against use of drugs and partaking in gangsterism during a gathering held at the school’s premises on Friday.
The gathering is a series of campaign in schools and communities with the aim to raise awareness on drugs including related matters as well as issues surrounding children in conflict with the law spearheaded by the Ministry of Law and Justice (MoLJ) department of Probation Unit and LMPS.
Addressing learners, Senior Probation Officer in the Ministry of Law, Mr. Ts’epo Matlosa said reasons behind these campaigns are to act pro-actively against drugs, this upon realisation that some children engage in different crimes including use of drugs, being part of gangs as well as sexual offence not knowing these are criminal activities.
He appealed to learners to be aware of the existence of probation unit department which he said has a responsibility to protect children, guide them and provide those tactics in preventing these crimes.
Meanwhile, Sub Inspector Lerato Tolofi from Maseru Central Charge Office – LMPS appealed to learners to be aware that gangsterism, bullying and use of drugs including cases of sexual offences are increasing amongst learners in different schools hence these campaigns.
She urged them to be mindful pf their behaviours, avoid engaging in these acts as they put their lives at risk while also hindering their future.
Meanwhile, the School’s Principal, Mrs. ‘Manthatisi Molepe highlighted the importance of this gathering in informing and educating learners about this crucial matters while also equipping them with necessary life skills.
One of the learners, Bohlokoa Maieane, Grade 10 learner said the gathering has been instrumental in raising awareness about critical issues they as children thought were not too serious.
Sefate Sa Bophelo like other schools is reported to be not an exception in issues of drugs hence the visit.
This school is ranked one of the top 20 top and based perdorming schools in Maseru as according to the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET).
