TOURISM MINISTRY LAUNCHES THABA-BOSIU IDENTITY LOGO

MASERU – The Ministry of Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture led what they tame soft launch of Thaba-Bosiu identity logo at an event held in Thaba-Bosiu Masekoeng on Wednesday.

The launch is a build up and part of series of events leading to Lesotho’s 60 years golden jubilee independence while also positioning the space as a branded tourism destination.

In her remarks after showcasing and leading the launch, the Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Tourism, Mrs. ‘Mantiti Khabo said the launch is part of government priority area, an enabling factor to transforming the economy radically.

She added that Lesotho remains a heavenly blessing when it comes to issues of tourism otherwise rich cultural heritage that can go a long way in reshaping Lesotho for the better, especially at this time when the country is moving towards 60 years independence.

Moreover, she noted through this logo, she is adamant the society will go an extra-mile, introspect and find a way to make sure Thaba-Bosiu through this logo is well destined to welcome domestic and international tourists.

She alluded, there is no tourism without the society, urging them to collaborate, deal with their misunderstandings for the betterment of this sector.

“We owe it to ourselves to preserve the riches founding father Morena Moshoeshoe l has done for us,” she stressed.

On behalf of the Principal Chief of Thaba-Bosiu, Chief Mosiuoa Mphoto indicated the logo is not only an identity but enhances business opportunities enshrined in Thaba-Bosiu as a place that has rich and deep cultural background in it.

He expressed gratitude to this gesture, noting the office of the Principal Chief is aware of conflict emanating within Thaba-Bosiu tourism association, saying they are working hard to resolve that in order that efforts such as the one being launched are affected negatively.

Also appreciating the logo, Thaba-Bosiu Tourism Development Association Chairperson, Mr. Mojaki Moqalane mentioned that their role amongst others as the association is to ensure that this logo is not misused but used effectively to serve the purpose intended for.

He appealed to Thaba-Bosiu community to join this association meant to ensure that the community benefit from the rich cultural heritage, create employment and grow their community while also hosting tourists.

Moreover, on behalf of LECSA parish Thaba-Bosiu Reverend Bonang Mapitse said the church has played a huge role in promoting tourism in the country, saying at their church they have a chair belonging to Morena Moshoeshoe, adding through concerted efforts such could be used also to promote tourism.

This logo embracing colours such as orange, which are similar to Thaba-Bosiu soil as well as fragments forming part of the logo was designed by a local expert, Mr. Motsamai Moloko.

This event was graced with cultural plays by Thaba-Bosiu Primary learners as well as Linots’i Mokhibo group amongst others.
