TOURISTS ATTRACTION FACES CLOSURE

MASERU — Mahloenyeng Lodge, a place once known as one of the main tourists’ attractions in the country due to the history it carries and being situated at Matsieng where the Royal Family is housed, is now on the verge of closing down.

This was revealed by Ms. ‘Maseeiso Mosae, a Managing Director of the facility, in an interview with the Agency on Wednesday.

Mrs. Mosae stated that the place is temporarily open and operating but in transition to close. She pointed out that the decision was not easy but had to be taken.

She said the current poor economy inclusive of closure of revenue collecting activities such as garments factories makes it expensive to maintain the facility and pay staff

Ms. Mosae further pointed out that a survey which she conducted has revealed that customers are financially struggling adding that leisure no longer makes it to the budget.

She lamented that people who have money do not spend it in the country, adding that the economy in the country has gone slow since COVID-19 lockdown, therefore lamented that only few businesses are operational.

The Managing Director of the facility indicated that apart from the ailing economy, high crime rate in Mahloenyeng has affected business thus escalating the decision to close shop. . . .
