UNIPOD TO LAUNCH AT LEROTHOLI POLYTECHNIC

Maseru, Feb 17 — As a way to harness innovation, the Ministry of Education and Training in partnership with UNDP announced the launch of Unipod at Lerotholi Polytechnic on Friday at a press conference staged on Monday.

University Innovation Pod (UNIPOD) is fostered by UNDP, the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation. UNDP’s initiative is to have a number of hubs across the continent.

The Manager in the office of Higher Institute Mr. Thabeng Rapitso mentioned that the apex of innovation in Africa is known as TIMBUKTOO. “This name originates from the stone age and represents a centre of excellence which is what we are striving for,” he said.

As a method to bridge the gap between academia and the industry, this high technology space will be placed at a central institute of higher learning Lerotholi Polytechnic and will allow space for research and development.

“Having a central institute hosting this hub will allow easy access for all other students around the country and these spaces will allow for innovations to be commercialised as a prototype post academia,” Mr. Rapitso commented . . .
