Quthing, Sept. 05 — Vulture count will be a top activity carried out to observe International Vulture Awareness Day, to be held at Thaba-Chitja, Ha Tlhaku area on Saturday.
The day is observed annually on the first Saturday of September to conscientize the public that vultures are among endangered bird species, the role they play in maintenance of a healthy environment, and that they are our natural heritage hence need to be protected globally.
In an interview with the Agency, the Area Chief of Ha Tlhaku, Chief Mpiti Letsie stated the vultures will be counted amongst others to monitor population sizes, track their health, and assess their conservation efforts as endangered bird species.
He said that the carcass of an old horse killed by some members of Ha Tlhaku community, will be left over Thaba-Chitja where it will attract vultures to come for feed and they will easily be counted.
