Maseru, Nov. 27 — Basotho Action Party (BAP) will cross back to opposition as soon as the speaker of National Assembly has read their letter that they have written to him in the House.
The leader of BAP Professor (Prof.) Mahao said this at the Press conference held in Maseru on Monday after he was dismissed from his ministerial portfolio by the Prime Minister on Monday.
Professor Mahao said when Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) approached BAP to join the Coalition Government, the Government did not have enough numbers and they sacrificed and join the Coalition.
He mentioned that they had made it clear to RFP that they will not tolerate corruption, nepotism and bad governance where the government embezzle money belonging to poor Basotho.
Prof. Mahao highlighted that the reason he was fired as the minister is that BAP questioned how the government is operating in some areas especially at, he Ministry of Energy where the Principal Secretary (PS) was corrupt indicating that they asked the Prime minister to remove the PS or they will withdraw BAP from the Coalition Agreement.
He said he was surprised to receive his dismissal letter while he was expecting the PS to be dismissed.
“All members of Parliament under BAP will have to cross to the opposition with me or face the consequences as National Assembly Act clearly states that Proportional Representative members will abide by the party’s decision,” Prof. Mahao stressed.
Earlier on Wednesday, the government’s Spokesperson Mr. Teboho Sekata told the Agency that the government will replace Prof. Mahao with another member from BAP per Coalition Agreement.
Meanwhile all members of Parliament under BAP including the Deputy Leader Mr Motlatsi Maqepelo were not at the press conference.
