Maseru, Apr. 23 — Mamothepa Mariti-Qhobosheane, one of the witnesses in a case in which some army members, including Retired Army Commander Lieutenant General Tlali Kamoli are charged with the 2014 bombings, was on Wednesday advised to next time come to court properly dressed.
A judge presiding over the case Justice Charles Hungwe told the witness who was dressed in a trouser and a reflector jacket, that in future when she comes to court to testify, she must try to dress formally to show respect to the court and the public. He stated that ladies are expected to be in a dress while men should put on a jacket.
This was after the court was told by the prosecution that it was difficult to secure the same witness and that when she was finally secured through the assistance of her employer who is the Maseru City Council instead of a warrant of arrest which they considered, she came to court dressed in trousers.
The judge stated that although witnesses are always expected to be properly dressed when they come to testify, she will be allowed to testify in that dress code. He emphasized that what is important is her evidence not her appearance adding that she will not be sent away if she is already at the court premises. MM/TL
