BACKGROUND:

Lesotho News Agency (LENA) was established in 1985 with a view to ensure full coverage of news activities in the urban and rural areas throughout the country. It was modestly set up with one office in Mohale’s Hoek in the south of the country and another in Leribe in the north. The Agency was officially handed to Government of Lesotho by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1990. It has a steadily growing clientele which includes LNBS, private media, embassies, and international organisation.

VISION:

To maintain our position as Lesotho’s leading news gathering and packaging organisation by using advanced communication infrastructure and the strong presence of our news teams in all districts to give clients accessible, affordable reliable, sustainable, and immediate daily access, to a vast amount of exclusive news.

MISSION:

To serve as a vehicle for democracy, cohesion, and progress through the publication of accurate, factual and independent stories and to provide clients with effective and affordable media solution to reach our target market.

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE:

Provide an affordable, reliable, sustainable and accessible public information communication service by modernising and networking LENA and establishing different information dissemination channels or platforms.

LENA MANDATE:

It is mandated to promote generation and dissemination of public information geared towards the promotion of development related activities. As the main collector and distributor of public information at both local and international levels. LENA is strategically placed to serve as the core of a Lesotho’s gathering and distribution system.

This is achieved through reporters who are strategically placed in the districts to bring developmental news from the grassroots level.
