BOYS TO BE REVIVED

Leribe, Apr.12 — With the purpose of developing boys into responsible males, Makhala Thekiso Foundation will during winter school holidays this year host boot camp for boys aged between 15 and 25 years at Peka in Leribe.

The boot camp is aimed at covering only boys taken from Manka Community Council with the assistance of Peka Zonal Committee. Through the committee the foundation will be able to sensitize boys from many villages within the council.

Explaining the purpose of the event, the Director of the foundation Ms. Makhala Thekiso said the main purpose of the camp is to mould the boys into responsible individuals, from the teenage stage to manhood.

She explained that the camp will be inclusive of herd boys and those from initiation schools since most of the time they are the sector troubling the communities, through the use of among others drugs and engaging in house breaking.

In addition, she said the foundation has identified that the boys seem to be neglected in their developmental issues by the sectors of the communities hence their behaviour tend to be bad and not acceptable.

Referring to monitoring, Thekiso said the impact will also be monitored by the foundation via the zonal committee and through the boys’ views as they look out for each other at village level.

Talking about age, she said the foundation has aimed at 15 years to 25 because it is at an early stage that behavioural changes are evident and easy to attain.

Since its establishment four years back, Makhala Thekiso Foundation has been mostly working on girl’s issues.

It was established in November 2018, as a safe platform to build resilience towards societal rigid norms to improve livelihoods of different community members.
