LESOTHO, ETHIOPIA ON AGRICULTURAL COOPERATION

Maseru, Mar.28— In reigniting its agricultural sector, Lesotho through its Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has reached out to Ethiopia, a nation lauded for its recent agricultural revolution, for potential collaboration.

According to the press statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, this surfaced during the courtesy call by Ambassador Ms. Ntšiuoa Sekete on Ethiopia’s Minister of Agriculture Dr. Girma Amente NONO on Wednesday where she expressed interest for bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector.

The courtesy visit was meant to pave the way for lessons-sharing and skills transfer between the two sister-countries.It reports that Minister Nono said that among others, their focus has been on biodiversity, livestock, fisheries, fruits and vegetables, and now crops such as wheat, which they are proud to be able to export.“Our flagship projects include the Livestock Sector Initiative and the Green Legacy Tree Planting Program to build a green economy and fight climate change through planting 50 billion trees,” said Minister Nono.Dr. Nono emphasized Ethiopia’s keenness to collaborate with Lesotho to harness the abundance of water and land, to realize both food security and nutrition goals in the spirit of crafting ‘African solutions to African problems. . .
