IEC SUED FOR CONTEMPT

Maseru, Sept. 28 — Following a lengthy battle to part ways with its Public Relations Manager Tuoe Hantsi, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has been slapped with a lawsuit for contempt of court.

This is after the IEC failed to reinstate Hantsi as per a court order issued by the Labour Court on September 14 2023. The order was issued after Hantsi approached the same court challenging his dismissal from work by the IEC.

According to the Court papers, following the Order, Hantsi presented himself at work as the court had nullified his dismissal. It is stated that he was however told by the IEC Director of Legal Services and Human Resources Manager that he would only present himself at work when a written Court Order was available. It is indicated that the Court then issued a written judgment on September 21, 2023.
