Maseru, Aug. 06 – Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS) will hold a two-day Annual General Meeting in Thaba- Bosiu starting on Friday next week.
According to LRCS Communications Assistant Officer Ms. Pusetso Sehlabaka, the annual general assembly is one of the Society’s statutory meetings that are held annually, indicating that during this meeting, the society through its staff members and committees present their reports, looking into what they had planned, what they have achieved, analyse challenges and map the way forward.
She noted that the Society holds two meetings annually which include the planning meeting and AGM, saying the planning meeting is attended by staff members while the AGM is attended by board members and management.
Meanwhile LRCS programs target vulnerable groups ranging from Orphaned and Vulnerable Children, HIV and AIDS patients, chronically ill including TB patients and other groups such as women, girls and herd boys.
Based on the country’s situation, LRCS programs compensate the efforts of the government in reducing the impact of HIV prevalence, food insecurity and poverty facing Lesotho, while youth program centres around building the capacity of the young people to enable them to participate effectively in humanitarian interventions and contribute towards sustainability of their divisions and ultimately the National Society as a whole.
Lesotho Red Cross Society was enacted by Lesotho Parliament Act No. 31 in November 1967 and aims to alleviate poverty wherever it may be found in the communities.
