ORGANIZATIONS CALL FOR PROTECTION OF CHILDREN WITH ALBINISM

Maseru, Apr. 18 — Different organizations of persons with albinism have strongly called on the protection of children with albinism in Africa.

This surfaced on the third day of the 43rd Ordinary Session of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) currently going on in Maseru with the day themed the Day of General Discussion on Solutions to Challenges faced by #ChildrenWithAlbinism.

In his remarks Mr. Kwame Andrews Daklo of Africa Albinism Network (AAN) pleaded for the adoption of a human rights-based approach to support children with albinism in Africa, through empowerment, legal reforms, and building strong coalitions to enhance advocacy efforts.

He urged African States to enact and enforce legislation to combat discrimination, violence, and harmful practices targeting children with albinism and providing a platform to discuss and seek solutions to these pressing issues.
