Maseru, Feb. 04 — The Roman Catholic Church on Saturday night launched a pilgrimage of 1000 Hail Marys which will take place throughout the year to mark Lesotho’s bicentennial anniversary at Ha ‘MaJesu Roma Parish.
The pilgrimage is intended to coincide with the 200 years of Lesotho celebrations.
Speaking at the event, one of the organizers Miss Katleho Tlali said that this is intended to commemorate the role of the Catholic Church in the founding and development of Lesotho saying in particular to remember the role that the Virgin Mother (Mary) has played in shaping the country.
She explained that the Founder of the Basotho nation, King Moshoeshoe I, played a very big role in the Catholic Church by openly welcoming the Catholic missionaries Bishop Jean Francois Allard, Blessed Father Joseph Gerard and Brother Pierre Bernard to the country in 1862.
