TEYATEYANENG FARMERS BRACE FOR DISTRICT SHOW

Berea, March 12 — Teyateyaneng Wool and Mohair Growers Association (TWMGA) said despite some challenges, preparations are at the advanced stage for farmers at individual capacity to attend the district small stock show scheduled for Thuathe wool shed on March 28.

TWMGA Chairperson Mr. Potlako Seliea confirmed the development during an interview with LENA on Wednesday.

Mr. Seliea said although not all the farmers will attend the district show, their wool shed will be represented by other farmers who have made prior preparations with proper management of small stock, provision of additional fodder and recommended vaccines.

He pointed out that heavy rains which they did encounter have impacted them negatively and the conditions of their small stock are not that good, adding that they did not cultivate the fields for additional fodder as a result it was quite difficult to feed their respective families and at the same time to procure fodder for their small stock.

Mr. Seliea said in most cases, farmers have inherited such flocks from their parents or even grand-parents and recently some farmers still do not understand the importance of attending farmer’s shows, whereas their interest is more focused on the shearing of sheep and goats or the production of wool and mohair.

He said efforts to enhance quality production and increased profits can be influenced by learning good practices from others.

Teyateyaneng Wool and Mohair Growers Association has over 90 small stock farmers.
