MINISTRY UNDERTAKES WOMEN IN SCIENCE SURVEY

Maseru, Aug 17 — In an attempt to establish challenges facing women and young girls in science as well as how best to solve them, the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation  (MICSTI) is undertaking an online survey.

According to Research Officer in the Department of Science  Ms. Lieketseng Tjokotsi, this exercise will be done throughout the month of August which is womens’ month.

She noted that if Lesotho is to attain Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), the need to encourage women to partake in science, technology and engineering studies is important for improving economic growth.

Ms. Tjokotsi urged women to actively participate in this initiative so as to get lasting solutions that will attract and maintain women in science.

Meanwhile, the Agency has established that research conducted by UNESCO in 2011,  only 30 percent of women locally engage in Science studies

The Ministry of Information seeks to support efforts geared towards enhancing science, technology and Innovation among others.
