ELDERLY PEOPLE CRY FOUL OVER DIGITAL PAYMENT SYSTEM

Maseru, Aug 10 — Some of the elderly people in the Machache constituency are crying foul over the Department of Social Development resolution to migrate from paying the old age pension manually in a form of cash to digital payment through Mpesa or Ecocash.

A Community Councillor for Ratau A02, Mr. Letebele Rabotsoa told the Agency that the general concern by the elderly people in the Machache constituency is that majority of them do not have smart phones and that they are not even able to use mobile phones.

After one of the elderly at the public gathering held at Metolong expressed her concern that as the elderly are satisfied with the current payment method of manual cash, Mr. Rabotsoa said it was not an isolated case but the general feeling of many elderly people in the area that the new payment method was likely to bring more challenges. . .
