KHOKHOBA COMMUNITY REGAINS CONFIDENCE OVER RESTORED WATER

Berea, July 23 – Community members from at least three villages of Khokhoba in Mosalemane constituency have regained their smiles and confidence after a decade long disrupted water supply has been restored.

Khokhoba villages such as Tsipa which has over 140 households, Makh’anfolei with over 125 and Khokhoba Moreneng with 135 households suffered a decade long water crisis.

According to Khokhoba Electoral Division (ED) Mr. Ntabejane Sekete, having access to safe and clean water supply is a sigh for relief and a huge achievement to them as community leaders, citing that they used to face public outcry and get blamed for incompetency in leadership.

Mr. Sekete highlighted that the problem has been resolved by connecting them to the pipeline which channels water to Mapoteng and they now have a constant supply to meet their daily demands.

Khokhoba Community Councillor said their success also came after they tried efforts to connect water from another village which is over 1500 away, but due to limited skills and other environmental factors like dealing with gravity and uneven terrain caused them to abandon the project.

However, he affirmed that they are finally enjoying clean and safe water right from their door steps, unlike some days back when they were forced to walk long distances down to the rivers and unprotected sources.

Mr. Pule Mahapang as one of the community members, said they have endured long struggle of limited water supply and they are amazed to get water at a close range whereby even elderly people cannot have any challenges.
