Maseru, April 15 — The fact that the 2024/2025 salary gazette has been released, means civil servants will get their increment starting this month (April).
This was confirmed by the Assistant Public Relations Officer in the Ministry of Public Service, Mrs. Mamakhoa Molapo in an interview with the Agency.
Mrs. Molapo added that civil servants will still get their salaries on pay day as there is nothing so far that could cause delay in payment of salaries this month.
Meanwhile, some civil servants earlier in an interview with the Agency raised concerns over salary delay and increment based on what happened last year when some civil servants received their salaries in May and some ended up embarking on a go slow.
One Mr. Ts’itso Mafaesa said that they do not want to experience what happened last year as salaries were delayed and they received them in May.
He said the government through the Ministry of Finance and Public Service should always be prepared and process salaries including the increment on time because if delayed, it causes inconvenience.
“We earn a small amount of money and cannot afford paying interests for bills, insurances and loans when salaries are not paid on time,” he said.
In her budget speech, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning Dr. Rets’elisitsoe Matlanyane indicated that the government is in a tight fiscal situation in the medium-term but despite this, the automatic notch increase will be accommodated, which accounts for 2.5 percent plus 2 percent salary adjustment across the board.
